NEW BOOK! Optimal Care in Childbirth: The Case for a Physiologic Approach

By Henci Goer and Amy Romano, Classic Day Publishing, 2012.

Henci Goer and Amy Romano, both members of the CIMS Expert Workgroup and the research team which conducted a systematic review of the Evidence Basis for the Ten Steps of Mother-Friendly Care, have just published their much awaited book, Optimal Care in Childbirth: The Case for a Physiologic Approach. Written mainly for maternity care professionals, their book rationally argues for revamping of the existing self-serving maternity care system by meticulously examining its historical, political, and scientific foundations. The arguments they present against the “medical model” of care and for “physiologic care” leave no stone unturned. They shine a light on the absurdity and dangers of continuing to care for childbearing women according to outmoded and scientifically unfounded beliefs. Goer and Romano offer the reader a sound, woman-centered guide to providing optimal care for mothers and babies.
