Review Points to Safety of Home Birth

A updated Cochrane Review reaffirmed the safety of home birth, especially when supported by a midwife who has a solid transport system in place. Reviewers also called for home birth to become more integrated into the American medical system. The review states: “Increasingly better observational studies suggest that planned hospital birth is not any safer than planned home birth assisted by an experienced midwife with collaborative medical back up, but may lead to more interventions and more complications.” Read the Review.
