Facts and Tools for Breastfeeding Moms to Understand Coverage under the Health Care Law

New Benefits for Breastfeeding Moms! As part of women’s preventive services under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), new plans are required to cover breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling. This is a significant step forward in making breastfeeding more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans. The Breastfeeding Toolkit is designed for women, advocates, community-based organizations and health care providers to provide information on breastfeeding-related coverage and offer tools for women who encounter problems with this coverage. The toolkit also provides detailed instructions on how to call insurance companies and how to file an appeal if the plan denies coverage. The toolkit includes draft appeal letters tailored to commonly encountered scenarios.
