Doula Business Advisor: What is TINDROPS?

The International Doula Registry of Professional Services (TINDROPS) is the brain child of Pat Burrell. The same Pat Burrell who single-handedly lobbied the National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) last summer to create a definition and provider number for doulas and an insurance billing code for doula services. Pat is attempting to greatly increase access to doula care by increasing the number of women who can support themselves through birth and postpartum doula work.

TINDROPS’ mission is to support labor and postpartum doulas in becoming more professionally recognized and respected, with a universal scope of practice and guaranteed reimbursement from Medicaid and private insurers. TINDROPS aims to promote insurance reimbursement by advocating with insurance industries and politicians, registering certified doulas, and promoting best practices within the field.

TINDROPS also aims to increase the standing of doulas by bringing doula organizations together as a united political force, and by making the profession of doula one which women easily recognize, make positive associations with to the birth process, and desire to have present at their birth. This will involve a national media campaign to increase public knowledge and awareness relating to the doula profession and much of the already present research that supports our work. In time, “doula” will be a household word and no woman will want to be without one.

Please register with TINDROPS and support Pat’s efforts. She’s working for all of us and she’s established that she’s an effective leader on this front!
