A long-nurtured vision has been realized in the establishment of the
Midwifery Arts Center on the west side of Ann Arbor. The Center is home to
three childbirth related businesses and is fulfilling its promise as a rich
and wonderful resource for pregnant women and their families, as well as
aspiring and practicing birth professionals. The Center is composed of a
large teaching space/meeting room, two private offices, studio space, Doula
Resource Center with lending library and computer/internet hookup, Gift
Shop, kitchenette, and bathroom. Recent upgrades have made the space even
more cozy and inviting.

Center for the Childbearing Year is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational and charitable corporation. Our mission is to promote healthy families by providing education, resources, and services that empower pregnant women and their families, and the professionals who work with them, during the childbearing year.

Harriette Hartigan
has been photographing the childbirth
experience since 1975. Her work is widely published and she
speaks at midwifery and childbirth conferences,
universities, and medical centers. She produces educational
resources, art shirts, posters, and prints. Harriette has
been given the President’s Award, Lamaze International 2000
for “portraying the beauty, nobility, and dignity of
birthing women” through her photography. In her new studio,
Harriette teaches photographic workshops and creates
portraits, specializing in pregnant women and newborns. She
is currently completing a book,

New Moon Midwifery has been providing homebirth care since
1987. The practice consists of two traditional midwives, Merilynne Rush
and Amanda Smith,
and apprentice midwives Sarah Nuxoll and Amanda Topping. They attend 4-5 births monthly
and serve families within an hour's radius of Ann Arbor. For
