Doula Share Circle

Facilitated by Toni Auker

We intend to create a safe space for doulas to come together, learn and share. Make new friends! Return to the Center on a regular basis (or, if you haven’t yet had the pleasure, check us out)! Client and doula confidentiality will be carefully respected in our sharing circle.

Birth TraumaVicarious Trauma & Self Care for Doulas

With Sierra Hillebrand
Monday, April 17, from 7-9pm

Doulas are intimately involved in some of the most vulnerable and powerful moments in the lives of parents, babies and their families. When our clients have traumatic experiences, it can have a big impact on the doula. In this interactive presentation, we will:
  • Discuss vicarious trauma and its impact on doulas and other birth and postpartum professionals.
  • Learn practical self-care tools for preventing, processing and releasing trauma related to birth and postpartum work.
  • Identify additional resources and modalities to address trauma when it feels “stuck” or difficult to process on your own.
Sierra Hillebrand is a midwife, doula and psychotherapist who has been working with birthing families in the Ann Arbor area since 1997. She is passionate about high-quality support for childbearing families and sustainability for birth workers. Sierra is the co-owner of Ann Arbor Family Doulas

The first hour each month will be devoted to interactive learning on the designated topic. Our second hour will be for open sharing. Every other month, we will host a Meet the Doulas event.  Expectant parents seeking doula support are invited to listen to a short presentation on birth and postpartum doulas and then circulate among the doulas present to chat informally. We will limit the number of participating doulas for these events. Please contact to get in the rotation.

In-arms nursing babies six months of age and younger are welcome. We will have our usual selection of hot teas available. Feel free to bring a snack to share.
