This hands-on training is designed for aspiring midwives and midwife assistants. We will practice on each other and on pregnant women. The following aspects of clinical prenatal care are covered:
- How to take and interpret a health history
- Estimating the due date
- Nutritional counseling and case studies
- Diagnostic skills – blood pressure, pulse, urinalysis, interpreting blood work
- Palpating baby’s position in utero
- Estimating baby’s size in utero
- Measuring uterine growth
- Estimating amniotic fluid levels
- Checking for edema
- Listening to fetal heart tones
- Pulling it altogether — case studies
